Little help?

Looking over your site, I can see how the generations have changed. Having lived through what I've lived through, I'm sure you have scratched your heads a number of times about what my generation would say & do. Well, the feeling is mutual. I was looking at some of your photos & while I have heard of some of the "sayings" (scoop the loop) I don't really understand them. Can someone enlighten me on what "scoop(ing) the loop" was. What was the "hole" that was only for men? What went on there? Where was the Dutch Ice Cream place & was it just like I have seen on TV (soda shop hangout for kids)? Also.... I found it very funny that you would go to McDonalds for $0.25 fries, then head over to the Spot for a (real) burger!

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well & thank you in advance.

Okay so......"scoopin the loop" was when the guys would drive around down town in their "57" chevy's or whatever and us girls would walk the streets of downtown and hope to see the guy you liked and that maybe he would pick you up and take you scoopin.

"The Hole" as it was called was a place where only the "guys" would go to play pool during lunch or after school.  A definite sign of the times then..........lol

Yes there was a Dutch Maid ice cream shop and it was down town .  A lot of us would meet there after school or on a Saturday to have a $. 25 sundae and again hopefully see your guy.  It was pretty much like you see in those retro fifties movies.  A lot of fun, simple times and no trouble.

To a lot of us we think those were the best times to grow up.

Hope this helps you understand a little of the 50's generation
